Recently, the metric 12-grade standard threaded screws, as the top-level core product in the field of metal fasteners, have witnessed several significant developments along with the upgrading of industry standards, technological innovations, and expansion of market demand. They have become the focus of attention in the metal processing industry. Their technological breakthroughs and standard improvements are driving the fastener industry towards higher precision, higher strength, and intelligence.
At the standard level, China has recently officially released the new version of GB/T 5782-2025, "Fasteners - Hexagon Head Bolts", which clearly adds high-performance grades such as 12.9 and eliminates outdated 9.8 and non-ferrous metal bolts, achieving full alignment with the international standard ISO 4014:2022. This standard covers thread specifications from M1.6 to M64, optimizing the size tolerances and tensile strength of 12-grade threaded screws, requiring their yield strength to be no less than 1200 MPa and tensile strength to be no less than 1400 MPa, suitable for ultra-high-strength connection scenarios, and providing unified technical specifications for high-end equipment manufacturing.
In terms of technological innovation, domestic enterprises have made significant breakthroughs in 12-grade threaded screw processing equipment. In January 2026, Ningbo Yijun Technology independently developed a new generation of fully automatic thread rolling machines, which were officially put into mass production. These machines can efficiently process precision threaded screws ranging from M2 to M12. The PLC control system and infrared spectroscopy analysis module they are equipped with can monitor processing parameters in real time, controlling the thread depth deviation of M12 screws to 0.02 millimeters. Compared with traditional processes, the accuracy has been improved by 5 times, and the defective rate has been reduced from the industry average of 3% to 0.05%. This equipment also adopts TD coating molds and dynamic pressure compensation technology, which can be adapted to the processing of high-hardness materials such as stainless steel and titanium alloys, breaking the foreign monopoly of high-end processing equipment.
In terms of market application, the demand for metric 12-grade threaded screws has been continuously increasing, especially in high-end fields such as automobiles, aerospace, and precision instruments. As the highest grade fastener of the European standard, 12-grade threaded screws are often used in combination with 12.9-grade bolts. With excellent torque distribution and load-bearing capacity, they are applied in key parts such as engine components, bridges, and super high-rise buildings to ensure structural stability and safety. Currently, domestic 12-grade threaded screws have achieved large-scale production, and some enterprises' products have successfully entered the high-end markets of Europe and North America, gaining recognition from international customers.
Industry insiders indicate that with the implementation of the new national standard and the popularization of intelligent processing technology, the quality and production capacity of metric 12-grade standard threaded screws will further improve. In the future, the industry will continue to increase research and development investment, optimize material formulas and processing techniques, promote the development of 12-grade threaded screws towards lightweight, corrosion resistance, and full-process digital traceability, and help China's metal fastener industry achieve the leap from "manufacturing" to "intelligent manufacturing".
