With the full implementation of the new national standard "GB/T5267.1-2023 Electroplating Layer of Fasteners", the galvanized roof nail industry is undergoing an all-round transformation from technology to market. This standard upgrade, which directly targets the quality of coatings and environmental performance, not only forces enterprises to carry out technological transformation but also opens up a space for differentiated competition in the industry against the backdrop of the global infrastructure demand recovery.
The rigid constraints of the new national standards have become a "catalyst" for the industry's transformation. The standard explicitly prohibits the cyanide galvanizing process and strictly reduces the limit for hexavalent chromium from 0.1% to 0.01%, fully aligning with the EU REACH regulation. In response to the common outdoor corrosion problem faced by roof nails, new requirements for thermal shock tests ranging from -40℃ to 120℃ and 96-hour acetic acid salt spray tests have been added to ensure service reliability in extreme environments. The head of a leading enterprise in South China stated that by introducing cyanide-free electroplating production lines and fully automatic testing equipment, the corrosion resistance of its products has increased by 40%, and the defect rate of appearance has dropped from 8% to 3%. It has successfully entered the high-end construction market in Southeast Asia.
Policy promotion resonates with market demand, driving the optimization of the industry's production capacity structure. Benefiting from the Belt and Road Initiative and RCEP tariff preferences, China's export volume of galvanized roof nails will reach 850,000 tons in 2024, with the Southeast Asian market accounting for over 40%. Vietnam alone will import 180,000 tons. The domestic market is also booming. In the industrial transfer receiving areas such as Hubei and Henan, 27 new production lines have been added. The construction of the New Western Land-Sea Corridor has further increased the export volume of the western region by 28.4% year-on-year.
Technological innovation is reshaping the competitiveness of industries. New environmentally friendly materials such as zinc-nickel alloy coatings have been applied in batches. The corrosion resistance of the products has been improved by more than three times compared with traditional galvanizing. The order proportion of such high-end roof nails in fields such as wind power and Marine engineering has reached 23%. Cross-border e-commerce has become a new growth point. The online export volume is expected to exceed 500 million US dollars in 2024. Platforms such as Alibaba International Station help small and medium-sized enterprises directly reach construction companies in 42 countries and regions around the world.
The industry is also confronted with challenges of costs and barriers. The cost of environmental protection renovation has increased the operating costs of enterprises by 8% to 12%. Anti-dumping investigations in Europe and the United States have led to the involved amount reaching 320 million US dollars in 2024. In response to this, leading enterprises have actively responded by setting up factories overseas and obtaining ASTM international certification, etc. The number of patent applications for chromium-free passivation technology has increased by 45% year-on-year, accumulating technical confidence for long-term development. With the increase in industry concentration and the expansion of the proportion of environmentally friendly products, the galvanized roof nail industry is shifting from "scale expansion" to a new stage of "quality first".
