On August 22nd, the 2025 Colorful Guizhou Cultural and Art Festival was grandly opened in Guiyang, hosted by the Publicity Department of the Provincial Committee, the Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, and the Provincial Federation of Literary and Art Circles, and organized by Guizhou Cultural and Art Industry Group, the Provincial Qian Opera Theatre, the Provincial Academy of Arts and Culture (Provincial Drama Creation Center), and the Provincial Public Cultural Development Center (Colorful Guizhou Cultural Cloud).
This year's festival, themed "The Splendor of the Land, the Melodies of Guizhou and the Charm of Guizhou", aims to accelerate the construction of a strong cultural province in Guizhou and vigorously promote the "Four Major Cultural Projects". It adheres to the concept of land art and the principles of materializing artistic masterpieces, refining theatrical performances, and socializing cultural activities. It innovatively creates a grand event for culture and art, a festival for the people, and a high-quality platform for the integration of culture and tourism, which is of great significance for the prosperity and development of Guizhou's culture and the enhancement of its cultural influence.
At the opening ceremony, the highly anticipated "Dance and Music Chanting of Cicadas" orchestra performed the popular Dong song "Echoes of the Earth: The First Bloom of the Lotus", which won warm applause from the audience. The large-scale original dance drama "Wang Yangming", a project funded by the National Art Fund and a supported work of Guizhou's artistic excellence, produced by Guizhou Cultural and Art Industry Group and meticulously crafted by the Provincial Song and Dance Theatre over three years, was presented as the opening performance, officially kicking off the 2025 Colorful Guizhou Cultural and Art Festival. Through exquisite dance choreography and profound plot interpretation, the drama vividly depicted the thoughts and spiritual world of Mr. Wang Yangming, offering the audience a feast of both visual and cultural delights.
It is reported that the festival will run from August 15th to September 14th, featuring a rich variety of activities including the opening and closing ceremonies, performances and exhibitions of artistic masterpieces, and cultural and artistic co-construction and sharing activities. During this period, 12 selected plays from both within and outside the province, such as the Qian Opera "The Wordless Monument" and the acrobatic drama "The Exquisite Realm", will be staged successively.
Notably, as a project benefiting the people, the festival's introduction of high-quality plays for concentrated performances implements low ticket prices to benefit the public, allowing more people to enter the theater and enjoy the charm of culture and art. Before the opening ceremony, a series of performances of the 2025 Colorful Guizhou "Voices of the Earth" cultural activities, including the Peking Opera "Sky Eye", the dramas "Goodbye, Huifan", "Lychees of Chang'an", and "Come Out", the folk music "Mountain and Sea Fantasy", and the Yue Opera "Maple Leaves Like Flowers", had already been staged successively, successfully warming up the festival and receiving wide acclaim from audiences both inside and outside the province.
