As a key auxiliary material in building waterproofing projects, galvanized felt nails have recently shown a good trend of steady progress under the dual impetus of policy support and market demand. From market scale to technological upgrading, from domestic layout to overseas expansion, this niche metal products sector is now embracing all-round development opportunities.
The continuous expansion of market demand has become the core driving force for industry growth. Data shows that the annual output of galvanized felt nails in China will reach 286,000 tons in 2024, an increase of 12.3% compared with 2020. This growth is attributed to the in-depth implementation of policies such as urban renewal and the renovation of old residential areas. By 2025 alone, the investment scale of national roof waterproofing projects is expected to exceed 42 billion yuan, driving the annual demand for galvanized felt nails to strive for 350,000 tons. Regional demand shows differentiated characteristics. The East China, South China and Southwest China regions, as the main consumers, will account for more than 58% of the demand in 2024. Meanwhile, the central and western regions, riding on the momentum of the "Belt and Road Initiative", are expected to lead the country in growth rate.
Technological upgrades and environmental protection transitions are reshaping the industry landscape. The current industry is accelerating its upgrade towards high zinc coating and environmental protection. The hot-dip galvanizing process is gradually replacing the traditional electro-galvanizing, and the zinc coating thickness is generally increased to over 80g/m² to adapt to the harsh environment of high humidity and high salt in coastal areas. The tightening of environmental protection policies has driven a reshuffle in the industry. After the implementation of the "Regulations on the Administration of Pollutant Discharge Permits", small and backward enterprises have gradually withdrawn. The market share of the top ten enterprises has risen from 31% to 44%. Scale and greenness have become the mainstream of the industry. At the same time, the implementation of standards such as GB/T349-2024 has put forward more explicit requirements for product dimensional accuracy, flexural strength and salt spray corrosion resistance. 96 hours of salt spray without red rust has become a mandatory standard for leaving the factory.
Policy support and export growth have added wings to the industry. The "14th Five-Year Plan for Building Energy Conservation and Green Building Development" has included galvanized felt nails in the mandatory standards for the quality acceptance of roof engineering, solidifying the rigid market demand. The overseas market also performed outstandingly, with an export volume of 43,000 tons in 2024, representing a year-on-year growth of 9.7%. Southeast Asia, the Middle East and other countries along the "Belt and Road" have become the main growth points. Domestic enterprises actively align with international standards such as ISO 1459 and ASTM F1667, promoting the further integration of their products into the global supply chain.
Industry experts point out that in the future, competition among galvanized felt nail enterprises will focus on material innovation, green certification and supply chain efficiency. Enterprises with automated production lines, full-process quality control capabilities and environmental protection qualifications will gain an edge in the new round of market consolidation and drive the industry towards higher-quality development.
