In the industrial field, cold-drawn wire, as a common metal processing product, plays a significant role. Cold-drawn wire is a type of metal cold processing. It is made from wire rods (commonly known as reinforcing bars) through a series of processes such as stripping and drawing.
When producing cold-drawn wire, the first step is to remove the surface oxide layer and impurities from the wire rod by peeling, which prepares it for subsequent processing. Then, lubrication is carried out to reduce the friction during drawing, allowing the wire rod to smoothly pass through the mold. Drawing is the core step. The wire rod is drawn through a mold hole smaller than its diameter, causing its diameter to decrease and its length to increase. This process often requires multiple draws, and the deformation amount and drawing speed must be strictly controlled each time. After multiple draws, the internal stress of the cold-drawn wire is high and its plasticity decreases. Therefore, annealing treatment is necessary to restore its plasticity. Finally, surface treatment and quality inspection are carried out to ensure that the cold-drawn wire meets the quality standards.
Cold-drawn wire has a wide range of applications. In the construction industry, it is an indispensable material and is often used in concrete prefabricated components, such as laying cold-drawn wire in prefabricated floor slabs, which can effectively enhance the bending and crack resistance of the floor; as wall tie bars, it can strengthen the connection between the wall and the main structure, improving the stability of the wall; it can also be used to make steel wire mesh for plastering work, preventing cracks and detachment of the plaster layer on the wall. In the agricultural field, it can be used to make breeding cages, with its high strength ensuring that the cages do not deform over a long period of use and can withstand the activities and weight of poultry and livestock; when building agricultural greenhouses, cold-drawn wire is used as the skeleton material, which can withstand wind loads and snow loads, ensuring the stability of the greenhouse structure and providing a favorable growth environment for crops. In industry, cold-drawn wire can be used to manufacture various springs, meeting the performance requirements of different types of springs, such as car seat springs; it can also be used as raw material for cutting and processing, processed into standard components such as screws and nuts. In daily life, cold-drawn wire can be found in the production of clothes drying racks, anti-theft nets, guardrails and handicrafts.
