The metric 12-grade standard threaded screws, as the top core product in the field of metal fasteners, serve as an important benchmark for measuring the precision and strength levels in the metal processing industry. Recently, with the upgrading of industry standards, technological innovations, and changes in market demands, the related industry knowledge has also received new additions and improvements, becoming the focus of metal industry practitioners.
In terms of standard specifications, a number of relevant national standards in China have been implemented recently, achieving full alignment with international standards. Among them, GB/T 5782-2025 "Fasteners - Hexagon Head Bolts" was officially implemented on February 1, 2026, adding a 12.9 high-performance grade and eliminating outdated specifications. It covers coarse-threaded products with thread specifications ranging from M1.6 to M64. At the same time, GB/T 5783-2025 "Fasteners - Hexagon Head Bolts with Full Thread" came into effect simultaneously, clearly defining the technical requirements for 12.9-threaded screws. Its yield strength is not less than 1200 MPa and the tensile strength is not less than 1400 MPa, ensuring the connection requirements for high-end equipment and providing a unified standard for industry production. Additionally, the implementation of GB/T 196-2025 "Basic Dimensions of Common Threads" further standardized the basic parameters of metric threads, providing a basis for the production and processing of 12-grade threaded screws.
In the field of technical processing, domestic enterprises have recently achieved significant breakthroughs, breaking the monopoly of foreign equipment. In January 2026, Ningbo Yijun Technology independently developed a 3T fully automatic thread rolling machine that was officially put into mass production. It can efficiently process precision screws with specifications ranging from M2 to M12. Equipped with its own PLC control system and infrared spectroscopy analysis module, it can adjust processing parameters in real time, controlling the thread depth deviation of M12 grade screws to 0.02 millimeters, which is 5 times more precise than traditional methods, reducing the defect rate from the industry average of 3% to 0.05%. This equipment uses TD coating molds and dynamic pressure compensation technology, which can be adapted for processing high-hardness materials such as stainless steel and titanium alloys. Some of the products have successfully entered the high-end markets in Europe and North America, demonstrating the technical strength of China's high-end processing equipment.
In terms of market applications and industry status, the demand for metric 12-thread screws continues to rise, mainly concentrated in high-end fields such as automobiles, aerospace, new energy, and precision instruments. In the field of new energy vehicles, with the increase in the penetration rate of electric vehicles, the demand for 12-thread screws with high temperature resistance and corrosion resistance has an average annual compound growth rate of 12%; in the wind power sector, each 10MW wind turbine requires more than 1,200 sets of high-strength fasteners, most of which are of 12-thread specifications; in the aerospace field, the C919 passenger aircraft requires a large amount of 12-thread titanium alloy screws to ensure structural safety. Currently, there is an overcapacity of low-end fasteners in China, but there is still a certain dependence on imports for high-end 12-thread screws. However, the export proportion of domestic products has been continuously increasing, reaching 27% in 2025. The industry is accelerating its transformation towards higher value-added products.
Industry insiders point out that in the future, the 12-grade standard metric screws will develop towards the direction of lightweighting, corrosion resistance, and full-process digital traceability. The industry will continue to increase research and development investment, optimize material formulations and processing techniques, and promote the transformation of China's metal fastener industry from "manufacturing" to "intelligent manufacturing", further enhancing its competitiveness in the global high-end market.
Demand is on the rise, and metric 12-grade standard threaded screws are enabling applications in the automotive and aerospace industries.
