Galvanized steel wire plays a crucial role in both industrial and civil sectors. It starts with high-quality medium-carbon steel or high-carbon steel as the raw material, undergoes an acid washing process to remove the surface oxide layer and impurities, laying the foundation for subsequent processing; then it undergoes phosphating treatment to enhance the adhesion between the steel wire surface and the zinc layer; followed by drawing operations to stretch the steel wire to the desired diameter, giving it specific strength and toughness; finally, it is immersed in heated molten zinc liquid for the heat galvanizing process.
Galvanized steel wire possesses numerous excellent characteristics. In terms of corrosion resistance, due to the thick zinc layer and the formation of an interpenetrating layer with the base metal, its protective ability is outstanding. In outdoor harsh environments, the galvanized layer can remain undamaged for several decades, far superior to other protective methods such as electro-galvanizing. In terms of physical properties, it has excellent toughness and elasticity, can withstand certain bending and stretching without breaking, and has a high tensile strength, meeting the requirements of various applications demanding strength.
The application fields of galvanized steel wire are extremely wide. In the communication system, it is a common material for transmission lines such as telegraph, telephone, wired broadcasting, and signal transmission, ensuring the stable transmission of information. In the power system, due to its good corrosion resistance, large zinc layer quality and thickness, galvanized steel wire can be used for the armor of cables with severe corrosion, ensuring the safety of power transmission. In the construction industry, it is often used for scaffolding construction, manufacturing construction nets, and fixing components; in agriculture, it can be used to make livestock enclosures, greenhouse structures, and pesticide spraying and irrigation equipment components; in the transportation field, it is also commonly seen in highway guardrails, bridge cables, etc.; in addition, it is widely used in handicrafts weaving, product packaging, daily civilian use, and other aspects.
From the perspective of production processes, compared to electro-galvanizing, galvanized steel wire has a thinner but more uniform coating thickness, faster production speed, and a thicker and more protective coating, but it consumes more zinc and has greater difficulty in controlling the zinc layer thickness during production.
With the continuous changes and upgrades in market demand, the galvanized steel wire industry is also continuously innovating and developing. On one hand, by improving production processes, enhancing product quality and production efficiency, reducing energy consumption and costs; on the other hand, developing more targeted products to meet the increasingly strict performance requirements of different industries, such as developing higher strength and more corrosion-resistant galvanized steel wires to expand its application in high-end manufacturing, marine engineering, etc. Galvanized steel wire, with its own advantages, plays an irreplaceable role in the development of various industries and has broad prospects for the future.
