I. Production Process of Galvanized Wire

Galvanized wire is made from high-quality low-carbon steel wire rods and processed through a series of rigorous technological procedures. The first step is drawing and forming, where the wire is drawn to the required diameter specification to give the galvanized wire its basic shape. Subsequently, acid washing and rust removal are carried out to remove rust and impurities from the surface of the steel, preparing for the subsequent galvanizing process. Then, after high-temperature annealing, the internal microstructure of the steel is improved, enhancing its toughness and plasticity. The key galvanizing process is divided into two methods: hot-dip galvanizing and cold galvanizing (electro-galvanizing). Hot-dip galvanizing is a process where steel wire is immersed in molten zinc at high temperatures. It features a fast production speed, a relatively thick but uneven coating. The minimum thickness allowed in the market is 45 microns, and the maximum can exceed 300 microns. The color is relatively dark, forming an infiltration layer with the base metal, and it has excellent corrosion resistance. In outdoor environments, hot-dip galvanizing can last for several decades. Cold galvanizing is a process in which zinc is gradually coated onto the metal surface through a unidirectional current in an electroplating tank. It has a slow production speed, and the coating is uniform with a relatively thin thickness, usually only 3 to 15 microns. The appearance is bright, but the corrosion resistance is relatively poor, and rust may occur within a few months. Finally, after cooling and other steps, the production of galvanized wire is completed.

Ii. Characteristics of Galvanized Wire

Good toughness and elasticity: It can bend to a certain extent without breaking, adapting to various complex usage scenarios. Whether it is for binding in construction or shaping in handicraft making, it can handle them with ease.

Outstanding corrosion resistance: The galvanized coating provides effective protection for the steel wire, blocking the erosion of moisture, oxygen and corrosive substances in the external environment. Especially hot-dip galvanized wire, due to its thick coating, has stronger corrosion resistance, which greatly extends the service life of the product.

High strength: According to different application requirements, by choosing appropriate raw materials and controlling the production process, galvanized wires of different strength grades can be produced to meet the requirements of engineering ranging from light to heavy.

Iii. Classification of Galvanized Wire

According to the galvanizing process classification: As mentioned earlier, it is divided into hot-dip galvanized wire and cold galvanized wire. Hot-dip galvanized wire is suitable for applications with extremely high requirements for corrosion resistance and harsh usage environments, such as Marine engineering and large outdoor buildings. Cold galvanized wire is often used in indoor environments or projects where corrosion resistance requirements are relatively low and cost is a sensitive concern.

Classified by the diameter of the steel wire: There are fine specifications and models, such as 0.45mm, 0.5mm, etc., which are often used in scenarios where the diameter of the wire is required to be precise, such as the production of the nose bridge strip of masks. Medium-sized models, such as around 1mm to 3mm, are widely used in daily construction, handicraft making, horticulture and other fields. The coarse specification model, larger than 3mm, features high strength and stability. It is often used for protection and reinforcement in large-scale construction projects and bridge construction, as well as for binding and fixing heavy industrial equipment.

Classified by zinc coating thickness: Common zinc coating model, the zinc coating thickness is relatively thin, the production cost is low, the price is affordable, and it is suitable for general environments with low anti-corrosion requirements and short service life. High zinc coating model, with thick zinc coating and strong corrosion resistance, is suitable for long-term exposure to outdoor and highly corrosive environments, such as guardrails in Marine environments and protective nets in chemical areas.

Iv. Application Fields of Galvanized Wire

In the field of construction, galvanized wire for construction is an indispensable material. It is used for binding steel bars, and its good flexibility and strength ensure the firmness of the steel bar connection. When making building protective nets, the corrosion resistance of galvanized wire can effectively resist wind, sun exposure and rain, ensuring the long-term use of the protective nets. Like the 22# (0.71mm) iron wire commonly used for construction binding, it is low in price, flexible and not easy to break. It is one of the ideal binding wires in the construction industry and is mainly treated with low-zinc cold plating.

In the field of handicrafts: Galvanized wire used in handicrafts has high requirements for appearance quality. It needs a smooth surface and uniform zinc coating to ensure the aesthetic appeal of the handicrafts. Its wire diameter and flexibility vary according to the production requirements of different handicrafts. It can be used to make various metal handicrafts, jewelry, etc., adding a unique metallic texture to the handicrafts.

In the industrial field: In industrial production, galvanized wire can be used to bind and fix various industrial equipment and components, as well as serve as connecting parts in some mechanical structures. Depending on different industrial application scenarios, there are different requirements for its strength, corrosion resistance, dimensional accuracy and other aspects. For instance, in some chemical equipment, galvanized wire with a high zinc coating thickness is required to ensure the stable operation of the equipment.

In the fields of agriculture and animal husbandry, galvanized wire can be used to make agricultural fences, cages for livestock and poultry breeding, etc. For instance, galvanized wire is a type of galvanized wire. Each roll of one sheet weighs approximately 100 to 1,000 kilograms and is mainly used in industry, agriculture and animal husbandry. Its sturdy and durable characteristics can effectively protect crops and livestock while resisting the erosion of the natural environment.

Other fields: It is also widely used in wire mesh weaving, highway guardrails, product packaging and daily civilian use, etc. In highway guardrails, the high strength and corrosion resistance of galvanized wire ensure driving safety. In product packaging, galvanized wire can firmly bind items. In daily life, galvanized wire is also used in common items such as clothes drying racks.
